View RecordsDistinguish Cape May County jail records from a police arrest report, identify the agency involved, and request the record that answers your question.
| What you want to establish | Cape May source and its scope |
|---|---|
| County Correctional Center incarceration | The Jail Records office maintains information about people who have been incarcerated at that facility. It is a jail-history route, not a record of every arrest by every agency. |
| Charges, bail or court transactions for a current inmate | Jail Records maintains this information for currently incarcerated people. Call 609-465-1233 and follow the prompts for clarification. |
| Incident or accident handled by the Sheriff’s Office | Use the Sheriff’s report-request instructions. An incident handled by a municipal police department requires follow-up with that agency. |
The sheriff asks for the report case number, or the incident date and officer’s name. If you lack these details, first ask the agency how it can locate the event instead of using an unrelated jail booking number.
Email [email protected] with your full name, address and telephone number, together with the incident identifiers. State which report you are seeking.
The reports page directs requests other than accident or incident reports through the OPRA process. Ask the custodian how the specific item is handled and what can be released; this is not a promise that every investigative attachment is public.
The county instructs anyone considering posting bail to call Jail Records to confirm whether the person can be released and whether additional fees apply. Use 609-465-1233 rather than infer release eligibility from a displayed amount.
A report or jail entry may document an accusation and custody event. To establish the judicial result, locate the corresponding court disposition using its court and case reference.
A person may have been arrested without entering this Correctional Center, or a report may belong to another police agency. Keep the custodian and period searched with any negative response before interpreting its reach.
